Barks and Beats!

Here are some samples of narrative barks and beats used to help a player through puzzles, give them direction during a mission, and convey information.

The samples here are for fictional titles, one an Indiana Jones adventure game, and the other a Batman stealth/action game.

Indiana Jones Project

Indiana Jones: Our Player Character, Dr. Indiana Jones is a university professor and archeologist who is renowned the world over. Whether it’s his academic pursuits, or his reputation for saving the world from the forces of evil, he is respected in and out of the classroom. A brawler and gunslinger, Jones is no stranger to violence, but his biggest weapon is his mind, which helps him solve riddles, puzzles, and make the right call when he needs to be decisive.

Sallah Mohammed Faisel el-Kahir: Our Companion Character, Sallah is one of Indy’s closest friends. A man of his word and loyal to a fault, he follows Dr. Jones on his adventures because he knows that wherever his friend goes, trouble is sure to befall him. Sallah is an adept fighter, and an observant spotter. With his help, Indy can clear a room of enemies, or solve an ancient puzzle with ease.

Batman Project

Batman/Bruce Wayne: The prodigal son of the powerful Wayne family, Bruce witnessed his parents being murdered by a common mugger. This tragic even sent him on the path of vengeance and justice, leading him ultimately to his donning the mantle of Batman. With his vast fortune and numerous skills, he protects the city of Gotham from the criminal element that infests it.

Judge Fabienne: A Gotham City judge for the Superior Court, Judge Fabienne is marked for death by the Court of Owls. Hiding in their office at the court house, Judge Fabienne is hoping for someone to rescue them from the Court’s assassins, the Talons.
